Bamboo was born in Portmore, Jamaica (Waterford). Golfinga was born in Port –Au- Prince, Haiti (Canape Vert). They were born two months apart in the same year. Haiti is about 296 miles away from Jamaica. Most people know Jamaica for their Dancehall music, Haiti is mostly known for Kompa music. As youngsters they always show interests in MUSIC. Bamboo started to play music (DJ) at a tender age of 13; he used to sneak out at night to go enjoy the latest sensation. Golfinga started playing music at a tender age as well. They were both inspired by the talents and skills of the local Dj's. They both migrated to the United States in the mid nineties. Some way, some how in 1996 they ended up in the same class room at Palm Beach lakes High School. Mr. Hudson's class (World History), they recalled. Instead of doing class work, they would discuss music for the most part of the class. They started their friendship by loaning each other Reggae video and audio tapes. “Youth where the hell is my Sting 95 video” said Golfinga. They both burst out LOL!!! They never once set out to create a sound system or play music together. Their first gig came around June 1998, it was a pool party. Golfinga got a call to do a party; he decided to call Bamboo to see if he wanted to come through. Bamboo linked his friend Mystic and got some more equipments and records. Golfinga had agreed to take $50.00 for the gig. “Mi nah call no name, all now di gal neva pay me”. They both finished high school in the summer of 1998. They would link once in a while over the summer. In late September Golfinga got a call to do a house party. The very next day he called Bamboo and told him about it. The party was to be held on Saturday October 3 rd . The party turned out well that night, they rocked the house. They recalled that most of the people from the party were from Palm Beach Lakes High School, the same school they went. Golfinga linked Bamboo the next day, they discussed the party. Finga opened an envelop and showed Mr. B $75.00; he said “we got paid dawg”. This was the first time they got paid for doing the one thing they have always loved. During their conversation they decided to start doing this MUSIC thing more often. Since they did not have a name for their new crew, it was time to create or come up with one. After going over several names, Golfinga suggested ISLAND VIBES. He said “we both from the islands and we have vibes”. On that Sunday October 4 th, 1998 ISLAND VIBES was born. ::....::...::
